Join us for a seminar for professionals and families planned and presented by persons with early stage dementia. As diagnostic procedures become more sophisticated and the public's awareness grows, more individuals are being diagnosed earlier in the course of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. This seminar gives a rare but much needed perspective of those individuals with early stage dementia. Their important messages are inspiring to anyone in the fields of Alzheimer's disease and dementia, aging, and supporting families. Their message - I'm still me - with kinks. Making Sense of Memory Loss (Download a PDF flyer for this event)
Some memory loss is normal as we age, but some older people experience more than occasional forgetfulness. What should their family members know and what can they do to help someone who is beginning to experience memory loss or other difficulties with thinking?

A special five-part educational program to help family members of someone in the early stages of memory loss has been developed by the Mather Institute on Aging and The Greater Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.

Wednesday Evenings
March 31st thru April 28th, 2004
Skokie, Illinois
Class One: Overview of Memory Loss & Related Symptoms
Class Two: Communication Strategies that Work
Class Three: Dealing with Changing Roles and Relationships
Class Four: Planning for the Future
Class Five: Effective Ways of Coping and Caring

There is $20.00 fee and registration is required at least a week in advance. Participants must be willing to attend all five sessions and consider taking part in a confidential evaluation. For registration and further information on this program and ongoing support groups, call Catherine Prusko at (847) 933-2413.
